The beauty and diversity of the Bahamian islands has inspired many artists to capture this unique scenery on canvas. A number of art galleries have sprung up in the capital Nassau featuring the works of local artists as well as art from throughout the Caribbean. Of special note is the Bahamas National Art Gallery with a collection of the finest pieces from the islands,
Many artists utilize natural materials to fashion extraordinary pieces including pine cones, seashells and conch shells. Pottery, ceramics and stained glass are also used.
The Bahamian Government has fostered the development of local art and craft through the “Authentically Bahamian” label, which is given to items which are handmade, developed and indigenous to the islands of The Bahamas. These local arts and crafts are marketed in special outlets in the Out Island, Paradise Island, The Craft Centre, Festival Place and Prince George Dock.
